Production has begun on RE: Afterlife, which is due at cinemas in autumn 2010
Love them or hate them, the Resident Evil movie series has been a very profitable venture for both distributor Screen Gems and IP holder Capcom – so news of a fourth film in the series will clearly be good news for some.
Resident Evil: Afterlife will see the return of Milla Jovovich who will resume the role of Alice, according to ShockTillYouDrop. Also returning will be Ali Larter (Claire Redfield) and Spencer Locke (K-Mart).
Wentworth Miller has reportedly signed up to play Chris Redfield, who was also the lead STARS agent in recent release Resident Evil 5.
The film is also set to be shot in 3D, though whether that proves significant is very much dependent on the position of 3D film tech come this time next year.
Paul W.S. Anderson will once again assume director’s duties. Alice's battle with The Umbrella Corporation isn't finished,” according to Anderson. “Last time we saw Alice, she let them know she was coming after them. It’s time to settle the score.”

Already 4 films?
There are already 4 resident evil films out there.
Or does Resident Evil: Degeneration count?
What is it?
But What is it?
Oops
That should read . . .
. . .Or does Resident Evil:Degeneration NOT count?
It was cgi movie released last year.
Probably not
RE: Degeneration probably doesn't count in this series of films.
The live-action movies have been following the story behind Alice's character - involving pieces and bits of plot from the Resident Evil games - like being set in similar locations and incorporating some characters (but not putting them in the spotlight).
RE: Degeneration, involved the main game characters more (well Claire Redifield and Leon Kennedy) and continued the story passed where the games finished off.
So they are like two separate movie series, based on the same franchise.

Looking Forward to it
I'm looking forward to this one. I really enjoyed the first three and have enjoyed the game series for years now. Here's hoping for a good release and success at the box office when it comes out.
