Profits and revenues fall at Microsoft

But there’s more good news for Xbox, with profit doubling at Entertainment and Devices division

Windows and Xbox platform holder Microsoft has reported its results for the first quarter of its 2010-2011 financial year, revealing falls in revenue and income for the three months ending September 30th.

However, there was good news for the company’s Entertainment and Devices Division, which saw yet another year of growth. EDD enjoyed profits of $312m – almost double the $159 profit reported in the same period the year before.

EDD Revenue was marginally up at $189m.

Overall, Microsoft suffered a 14 per cent dip in revenues, which totalled $12.92bn. Profit reached $3.97bn, a drop of 18 per cent, whilst net income was down 25 per cent at $4.48bn.

“We are very pleased with our performance this quarter and particularly by the strong consumer demand for Windows,” Microsoft CFO Chris Liddell explained.

“We also maintained our cost discipline, which allowed us to drive strong earnings performance despite continued tough overall economic conditions.”
