Video games body pleased by Ed Vaizey’s commitment to support the UK games industry
Trade body ELSPA has praised the commitment pledged by the Conservative party’s Shadow Culture Minister Ed Vaizey at last night's London Games Conference to explore ways to help the UK video games industry should his party win next year’s general election.
“We welcome much in Ed Vaizey’s speech,” ELSPA director general Michael Rawlinson stated. “His grasp of the economic as well as social and cultural impact of the country’s videogames industry is commendable.
“In his speech he talked in terms of video games being a world-beating UK industry with a wide footprint touching on areas from leisure and education to health and defence. He also recognised that we are a ‘hard’ industry, that is to say one with a highly skilled workforce of mostly graduates.
“Ed Vaizey appeared to share our concern that without solid ongoing support and help from Government there is a real chance of the UK games industry losing jobs, income and standing in the global marketplace.
"He talked of the need for ‘a coherent strategy of support for the video games industry’ and here he is right on the money.”

Got to Laugh
While ROME burns...
Best switch sides for next election and keep the knighthood in place.
The stringed puppet show
You back again Captain? Still too cowardly to actually reveal your name I see. Hide behind your alias and snipe away you yellowbelly.
Got to Laugh
I would be very happy to disucss ELSPA's work with you Captain Scarlet and our position, if we have one on all the issues you raise. Just give me a call at our office.
The decent thing
Captain Scarlet,
It's great that the MCVUK.com messageboard is here to provide a forum for debate amongst the trade – and it's fantastic that Andy and Mike have the mettle to come on here and argue their point.
But if you wish to continue the discussion, it's only fair you use your real name and stop hiding from behind an alias.
We don't want to ban you – and I'm sure ELSPA doesn't want us to, either - but it's only fair... Anonymous pot shots are a little craven and, ultimately, pointless.

Captain Trollet
Pointless pandering to him - he is just winding you up. He has no more interest in the doings of ELSPA than in the price of fish in China. Once he has finished winding everyone up about ELSPA he will probably get everyone going with a post about how piracy is a good thing or how the supermarkets are doing the biz by cutting prices. Reply at your peril - trolls love the Oxygen (sic) of publicity.
