Super-sized DSi to arrive in Japan next month
Nintendo has unveiled a new iteration of the DSi.
The DSi LL boasts an extra large 4.2-inch screen, which is 93 per cent bigger than the DS Lite's screen size. It is set to hit Japanese shelves on November 21st and is priced at 20,000 yen ($220).
There is currently no word on a European or US release.
The console was rumoured earlier in the week, and will be targeted at users that wants to surf the internet, use the console as a music device or play reading-intensive software, with the larger screen able to show bigger characters.
The DSi LL comes with two touch pens, including a new extra large design, as well as three pre-installed DSiWare titles. The games include DS Easy Dictionary, and two Brain Training titles.

Tweakage...
Tweak it a little...relaunch, make a wedge. Wait another 6 months, tweak it a little...relaunch, make another wedge...
*Yawns*
Internet
well unless they've massively boosted the processor/memory, you aren't going to want to surf on a DS regardless of how large the screen is.
Yep
I haven't bought one yet but if this is hitting European shores I'll wait. A bigger screen is good for me
Scared!
So anyone thinking of buying a new DSi for Christmas? Oh no not me, there's a new one coming out next year...nice one Nintendo.
I think they are starting to get a little scared of the competition out there.
iPod, PSP Go are getting stronger and Microsofts attempt at a hand held is getting closer...scared I tell you.
Nintendo + Handheld = Success
"and Microsofts attempt at a hand held is getting closer...scared I tell you."
I doubt it... thanks to the Game Boy franchise Nintendo will never be beaten in the handheld market. This is merely a cash cow release, simple as.
Colour???
Why does it look like they've had it made by the same people who make happy meal toys?
Any one else think the colour looks gawwd awful?
Is Nintendo owned by Apple or something?
In the past few years Nintendo seems to be going with the Apple approach to making products.
They release one that sees a good chunk of success and then about 6 months later release a new, 'better' one. Then do exactly the same thing over and over.
I mean fair play to Nintendo (and Apple) if they are finding that consumers are stupid enough to buy something that is essentially identical to a previous version - but more expensive.
But it is pretty low when a company makes a 'new' model and then about a year later says "Nah that one wasn't great, buy this newer one instead."
Nintendo should really look at making a DS2 - one that is as powerful (or more so) than the PSP. That is the only way that they can really bring in a new audience, you know by having a system that can play truly decent games.
- I think the PSP's game library isn't that great and I hate using the analogue nub on it - so uncomfortable. But it's great to have a handheld that can handle awesome-looking 3D titles.
If the DS could handle proper 3D titles better then it would be awesome.
And the same can be said to Sony too. The PSPGo is one of the dumbest ideas. Those that already have PSPs won't want the PSPGo - because they won't be able to play their UMDs on it.
And if someone hasn't bought a PSP yet, then they aren't likely to buy the PSPGo.
- If you saw that the PSP was under £100 and could pick up second hand UMD-based titles for dirt cheap, and then saw the PSPGo at nearly £200 and download-only games at full price, I wonder what you are going to go with...
Anyway, sorry for the rant. Point being - that it would be better if the companies actually made the effort to enhance the handheld gaming field (with newer, more powerful units) than think of new ways to change the designs of their current models.
