Wii version of movie rental service seemingly set to join Xbox 360 and PS3 iterations
It’s been a huge success on Xbox 360 and was recently confirmed for the PS3 and now movie rental service Netflix is reportedly lining up a debut on Nintendo’s Wii console.
The rumours come courtesy of Business Insider, which has published claims from analyst Dan Rayburn that Nintendo is currently testing a Wii Netflix system with intentions to go live “very shortly”.
“What I'm hearing is that Nintendo originally planned to bring the Netflix service to the Wii before the end of this year,” he explains.
“This still might take place, but Nintendo is also considering holding off on the Netflix service until they release their next generation Wii HD unit in early 2010.”
Whilst talk of Wii HD might sully Rayburn’s credibility, he also insists that the Netflix service will also be compatible with Nintendo’s current machine.

Though it’s also fair to say that yesterday’s surprise unveiling of the DSi XL – Nintendo’s second DS revamp in as many years – could point to Nintendo shifting toward an Apple-style annual hardware update strategy.
