Gearbox: Valve “foolish” to snub PS3

Randy Pitchford questions studio’s refusal to develop for Sony’s console

Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has dubbed Valve as “foolish” for neglecting the PS3.

He also questioned the development studio’s insistence on handling its own products through Steam, despite the fact it requires third-part publishers to reach retail.

Speaking to Official PlayStation Magazine, he said: “I noticed something on the net not too long ago. Doug Lombardi had to take a swipe at the PS3 again and I thought it was foolish.

“I read it the same way I read fanboys. Like, there’s a guy who bought the Sony platform and he’s a Sony guy, so he decides he’s going to spend a certain percentage of his time bashing Microsoft. And there’s a guy on Microsoft doing the same thing.

“Those guys are childish and narrow-minded, it’s the same kind of thing.”

Pitchford went on to claim Valve’s products are less important than they think, adding that the studio “[doesn’t] care about retail, about Marketplace or PSN” because it has Steam.

“It’s cool, it’s good and they’re doing a good job but at the same time they’re reliant on the rest of the world,” he said. “They had to do that [Left 4 Dead] deal with EA. When I see the L4D as on TV, I don’t see a Valve logo, I see and EA logo, and when I bought it, I bought it at a store.”

What with Gabe Newall, founder of Valve being dubbed by Wiki as the "Microsoft Millionaire", I cant help but wonder....hmm, nah, maybe I'm wrong. Doug Lombardi is simply a sheep.

Yes, Valve are utterly foolish to snub PS3-and indeed Sony. Longterm Valve will start to see the effects of this.
