EA: PES is struggling

FIFA 10 publisher labels Konami’s football title a “non-mainstream franchise”

With FIFA 10 taking EA’s football series to new critical and commercial heights, the publisher has lashed out at Konami’s rival series Pro Evolution Soccer.

“PES is struggling like most other non-mainstream franchises,” EA UK’s vice president Keith Ramsdale stated at an EA press event earlier this week, according to Videogamer.

“This is very much a FIFA and Call of Duty year. FIFA – the quality bar is, again, unbelievable. [It has a] 91 per cent Metacritic on the two next-gen formats. 1.7m units sold the first weekend in Europe. Extraordinary numbers.

“There is quality product out there that is failing in the marketplace that at any other time would perform very well. So it's a tough place, but FIFA is a beneficiary of that, and we're really pleased with how FIFA's coming along.”

Talk about your own title

Why on earth Ramsdale feels the need to comment on anyone elses title is beyond me. He just makes himself sound like a fool. How about he takes time to answer all the Fifa fans that are disgusted with the umpteen bugs in the game? As it stands I know many fans won't be buying Fifa 11 and next year the Fifa reviews cannot possibly ignore all the problems like they have this year.

Still not as good as Pro Evo in it's pomp though is it? Pro may have taken a knock in recent years but PES 2010 is a return to form. Quite how FIFA got so many 90%+ reviews is completely beyond me. You only need to play half a season in Manager Mode to see the crippling bugs. Defences are still generic and the players still look like gorillas. And, well, it's just not Pro Evo, is it?

PES Back on form?

Are you having a laugh? PES 2010 is as much the same as last years abysmal effort. Yes PES used to be great, but clinging on to past gl;orries and conning yourselves that PES 2010 is actually any good is just laughable.

The new Master League on PES is a work of genius. It's ironed out almost everything that was wrong with the old one.

Management Mode in FIFA is, however, completely broken (I bought both games, foolishly believing the reviews).

I think this explains why Ramsdale also said that "single player gaming is dead". Because in FIFA, it pretty much is.

So what are these bugs you are referring too, apart from the issue with goalkeepers coming out every time even when you dont tell them to there are no other issues which are clear that effect the experience negatively.

I'm amazed it even passed Microsofts checklist to make it onto the 360.

Seen a lot on the forums of plays unhappy that when moving clubs in MM their new team starts with -2bn debt. If you've not saved before moving that's your career blow.

For all the tech put in to player dynamics etc. it amazes me that they get so many of the basics wrong that a game like Champ Man has been doing for ten years.

And how come my 1st season with Lazio I was expected a top10 finish. Which I got. Next season they just want me to stay out the bottom 3?
