Developer Media Molecule says a disc-based successor would be “counterproductive”
There were lots of puzzled looks when Capcom recently revealed that it is to release a disc-based successor to Street Fighter IV rather than expand its title via DLC, but now one major developer has vowed never to release a boxed sequel to its PS3 hit.
Speaking to CriticalGamer about the possibility of a sequel to LittleBigPlanet, producer Martin Lynagh stated: “I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.
Adding that a disc-based sequel would fragment the game’s online community, he continued: “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.”

What a non story
LBP doesnt need a sequal its a game that just keeps on getting bigger and bigger,
You dont have a new tap fitted to a sink each time you turn one off do you....
still i suppose they could put a couple of levels onto a disc and call it LBP ODST....
Sales
I wonder if this is more to do with the fact that although this was a brilliant game, it never sold that greatly in relation to the expectations that Sony initially had for it before release and so digital is the way forward because of that.
LBP ODST
That made me lol :)
Kinda glad they're not releasing a LBP2, what would be nice though to have a massive update with a load of new official MM levels. the community levels are cool, but you do have to sift through about 50 crap levels (like mine!) before finding that one golden community level.
LBP
Use the search functionality to filter out the "most played", "highest rated" levels etc, Nicola.
Micropayments are a put off
I loved LBP single player but the micropayments are too expensive - I can buy a whole game on iPhone for 59p yet they want to sell me a 'level pack' for £2.99 or a character pack for £1.99! Rip off!
LBP =)
i like LBP a lot, despite not playing it for ages, but if i don't trade in a game i don't play anymore then i think highly of it.
i do agree that load of new developer levels would be a great reward to the community for it's efforts and also breathe a little new life in to it.
more, cheaper levels kits to keep it fresh and more franchises. How cool would an Uncharted kit be?
what i also think they should do is, now it's had it's sales peak, ship a free copy with every PS3 sold. give it to everybody and then release a second wave of official levels for a small fee, enough to make a little extra cash for MMs next project. they shouldn't leave it too long tho, i'm sure they've already seen a downturn in activity. and don't get greedy either, as great a game as it is it's still a pretty simple game. just make sure it has the support it needs si it doesn't die a death.
anybody know how many levels there are now? i know it passed 1m ages ago. however a lot of them are rubbnish (mine sucks too:), they should probably erase all levels that are over 6 mnths old and are rated below 3stars. i think that would be a lot!
Universal Remonsters, Aaaahhhhh!!!!!!!
I think tom is right on all points. This game should be givin out with PS's like Uncharted 1 is now. I think everyone should be given the chance to take this game for a spin. It really helped to open up the artistic side of me once I started getting into level developing. I sketch and graff for fun. I found that working my brain on LBP to produce the ideas I had in my head (ie. figuring out how to actually make my contraptions work and just working with the basics of physics) really helped to expand my train of thought in other aspects like writting graff and what not. I did some of my best pieces in the time span I was working on my levels. Haven't really contributed that much to the online community lately as I have been busy with my apprenticeship schooling and all but I hope to get back at it working on my super awesome flying ship deally.
But I think everyone should be givin the chance to give this game a try.
I also think there are far too many crap levels out there but there should be a screening process of sorts for the levels that apear when searching for community levels. There are alot of people who rate levels alot lower than they should out of spite or whatever their reasoning. So I don't think it should be all levels under a certain rating. I think the levels should be tested out by appointed non bias poeple who will decide weather or not a level should be as readily available to the online community (job creation, there I'm fixing the economy :D...). I'm not sure where my levels are at right now but I would sure hate to see my levels unavailable to the online community because a few trolls decided to be mean.
Oh yeah and I also think that if they release a but load of new MM levels with a whole new story line like a sequel; that they should release a but load of new trophies, which im sure they will, but with another platinum(...yes I'm a self proclaimed trophy @$%#&)
If you wanna check out my levels (wich you should!) my PSN is : Kapow420
