Square confirms news via big video reveal; Leona Lewis track picked as game theme song
After days of speculation, Square Enix has finally confirmed the released date for Final Fantasy XIII via high-profile online video reveal.
The game will land in Europe and North America on March 9th on both PS3 and Xbox 360 – just a short while after its December debut in Japan this year. There is usually a lengthy localisation delay between releases of the Final Fantasy games.
The full trailer detailing the news can be seen at the official site for Final Fantasy XIII.
“Final Fantasy XIII promises to be a huge event in the 2010 gaming calendar,” said Phil Rogers, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Europe.
“This is truly a landmark title, arriving simultaneously for multiple platforms for the first time in the history of the series. We are also immensely proud to be able to bring the game to the European and PAL audience much earlier than was publically anticipated.”

Square Enix has also announced that a Leona Lewis song has been chosen as the game's official theme tune - with her track My Hands (from her new album) playing over a crucial scene in the game.
"When Square Enix approached Leona about including her song, 'My Hands' in Final Fantasy XIII, she was honoured to be partnered with such an iconic and groundbreaking video game series," said Tom Corson, EVP/GM, RCA Music Group.
"Leona is a natural fit with the game’s powerful themes and strong female protagonist. We’re delighted to be part of this effort, bringing great musical artistry to Final Fantasy XIII which is a riveting and dynamic gaming experience."

WTF
Leona Lewis?! I may have to learn japanese and import..... It's worse than that god awful SFIV theme music!
oh no
Damn, do we have to vote after every level?
I will boycott if Lewis Walsh is in the game
Every Breath...
Well its lovely to see a FF global release date... but, Leona Lewis?? Is she even good? Is Sting right about the whole X factor hullabaloo? Would his latest poncy folk release be any better to feature in FF? Probably not.
The sad thing is not even Leona Lewis will stop people buying this game. Tut-tut. Either way, fiver says she wont be signing copies in Game come March 9th.
holidays
Leona withstanding holidays booked for March!
Hopefully you can skip the song.
leave her alone
They should of had Chico-Time!!!!!
Lesser of two evils
WOuld u have preferred JEdward?
JEdward
JEdward?? Well that's just ubsurd. I think an established act is required - Nickelback always bring home the bacon.
I'm sure Activision are looking into creating a Band Hero Management game were you carefully groom desperate folk into whatever image currently tickles the local Pond Life's fancy. I imagine Louie Walsh will stamp in outrage when he realises that his in game image can be used to manage a band that doesn't have a young male in it... now that would be absurd.
:D
It's been confirmed that not only is she singing the lead song but she also features in the game... No really, part of Square Enix's new battle system you get to punch her in the face :D
Wow when did Leona leave feces on your lawn?
Seriously guys, I hate X-factor just as much as the next person. However Leona lewis can. . . CAN sing. She is very talented and if you knew anything about her you would also know that she is a keen gamer. I wish her the best of luck with this venture. It will suit the scene I am sure. I have faith in square-enix! When I played endless ocean I would only ever listen to the hayley westenra track Prayer. On top of that devotchka and michael andrews featuring Gary jules were on each of the gears of wars promo's!

March 2010 - getting crowded
Personally I think launching FFXIII in March next year would be a mistake. Their are a lot of blockbuster games coming out around that time and my sense is that Final Fantasy is not a strong enough brand to go up against the likes of Gran Turismo 5, Battlefield 2, Red Dead: Redemption, Bioshock 2 plus many others. I'm just not sure how popular Final Fantasy still is here in Europe and the US. Much will depend on how good a game it actually is I guess.
