Southpeak has reported increased revenues for its first quarter, crediting its diverse portfolio as a source of growth
The company, which publishes My Baby for DS as well as shooters and fantasy RPGs, notched up sales of $16.7 million for the quarter ended September 30, up from $8.3 million for the same period in 2008. Pre-tax profits for the Virginia-based outfit were $1.3 million, up from a loss of the same amount for the corresponding period in 2008. The company lost $12 million last year.
Southpeak has spread its interests into ultra-soft-core DS titles such as My Baby and Sushi Go Round but has also been active in the Xbox 360 and PC markets with games like Section 8, a first-person shooter. Last year it bought Gamecock. It has also picked up rights to the TNA iMPACT wrestling brand from bankrupt Midway.
Terry Phillips, chairman of SouthPeak said, "Our results validate our business strategy. Our unique positioning in the industry is providing us with many exciting product opportunities. Brands around which we will release titles this year include TNA wrestling, Montessori education, Miniclip, Horrid Henry and the Jamaican Bobsled Team. We're excited by the continued success of the My Baby brand, and have recently just released product extensions on both Wii and Nintendo DS.”
