Bayonetta nabs rare Edge 10/10

Sega’s upcoming third person action title receives top honours from cult UK games mag

Having wowed critics in Japan and winning a noteworthy 40/40 review from weekly Japanese games bible Famitsu, Bayonetta has now made its mark on this side of the globe thanks to its review in today’s copy of Edge.

Future’s cult magazine has awarded Sega’s action outing 10/10, making it only the 11th game in history to receive top honours from the publication.

The title is developed by Madworld creators Platinum Games, with Hideki Kayima – the man behind the likes of Devil may Cry and Viewtiful Joe – directing the project.

Bayonetta is due out in the UK on Xbox 360 and PS3 on January 8th.

It is good, but not that good. It's too niche and limited in scope and depth to be a 10/10. Let alone an Edge 10/10.

One Reason: Because teenage boys (and some girls) can goggle at a mostly naked woman killed angels of all things.
Great game. A demonic woman killing angels. Great concept. What, No Thompson's peeping out of the closet talking about how immoral this game is? No, show an immigrant gangster doing what he does best and it's immoral. Show a naked angel killer and not a peep.
Some world.

Japanese creativity

Bayonetta is better than the hordes of endless of grey FPS's. It certainly looks more fun than Modern Borefare 2.

The Japanese actually use something called imagination when making their games. There's also something called "character design" which most western developers don't bother with (they just stick a bald space marine in and have done with it).

Western developers, note how Bayonetta uses COLOURS, you remember those, don't you?

Really, though, I would have preferred a DMC-style Morrigan game to Bayonetta.

Some of the comments smack of NIH (Not Invented Here) syndrome... Sad Sad Sad, no wonder new IP has such a tough time.

Fantastic Game - Poor Price

The game looks remarkable, brilliant new IP, Poor RRP of 49.99. The industry needs new IP. New IP has been proven this year in the way of UFC and Batman. When publishers market key titles correctly and give retail the right support they seem to do better than others.

The price of RRP's must surely come down this year. We are going into the 5th year of 360, the current financial climate is low and no retailer this year has sold and EA or Activision at full RRP this year inc GAMEstation.

Somewhere in the chain from development to retail someone is being greedy. And at 31.50 + vat we will pay 37.01 for bayonetta. which sega no all retailers cant charge over £39.99 especially for new IP

Cheers for the £3 profit.

So will the industry see games increase this year with the VAT rise. or will publishers lower their RRP's to help the consumer. Then asda can charge £23 for fifa instead of £26 all good.

Make Games cheaper then you we can sell more, then New IP's will survive

Would the other games be....

Super Mario 64, Gran Turismo, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Halo, Half-Life 2, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Super Mario Galaxy, Grand Theft Auto IV, and finally, LittleBigPlanet?

Just a wild guess (oh the joys of the internet ;))

Anyway, congratulations to Sega with Bayonetta becoming on the 11th games from EDGE to get 10/10, together with 40/40 from Famitsu.

Hopefully the scores will translate into sales.

Edge 10 for 360 only?

The game was reviewed for 360. Normally for multi-platform games you can take that to mean scores apply to all platforms (they very rarely dwell on the differences because usually they are minor and are only fuel for fanboys on forums).

With the much publicised problems with PS3 version, I wonder if the Edge 10 applies.

I remember people complaining of the mutilated conversion of the Orange Box for PS3 - personally I didn`t see much wrong with it (certainly not game breaking - although I don`t think the game as a whole is that great - I like COD4, COD6 and KZ2 more).
