Nintendo’s multiplayer platformer becomes the fourth game this year to get top marks from Japanese mag
Having debuted in a respectable third place in the ELSPA GfK-ChartTrack All Formats Top 40 yesterday, Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros Wii has been given top marks by weekly Japanese games mag Famitsu.
Mario’s latest becomes only the 13th game to ever receive the highly-coveted accolade, though it is the second in just a few weeks following the recent 40/40 score for Sega’s Bayonetta.
Things are slightly different on this side of the globe, however. Cult consumer mag Edge agreed with Famitsu’s enthusiasm for Bayonetta, giving it top marks, though it’s slightly less enamoured with NSMB Wii, giving it just 7/10.

Ah well
There goes Famitsu's reputation.
don't you mean edge
Edge gave halo 3 10/10 and this only 7/10? I am not a nintendo zealot in fact I love the Playstation 3. I think this is harsh. The game is worth at least an 8. Regular readers will know that makes a huge difference. Edge have been known for it's harsh reviews.
A couple of things
Perhaps Edge would've rated Mario a ten, had they known Famitsu was going to...
Also, of course it gets a 40/40 from Famitsu - It's a Mario game. Also a perfect score from Japan's most mainstream games mag means much less now than it did ten years ago... and even then, the opinions of that magazine have never really had any relevance to the tastes and buying habits of Western gamers as a whole.
Well...
@ LordMonkey
Mario game you say? Did you know that Super Mario Galaxy was rated a 38/40 by Famitsu? Galaxy is in a completely different league than NSMBWii. There is no denying that Nintendo was lazy with NSMBWii, even if the gameplay was very polished. I can't really believe that Famitsu, of all magazines, would give it a perfect score, coincidence aside
