Composer confirms that recently passed pop legend helped in the creation of Sega’s platform masterpiece
It has been revealed that none other than the late Michael Jackson was involved in the creation of the soundtrack for Sega’s classic 16-bit console platformer Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
The admission comes from composer Brad Buxer in an interview with Black & White, as spotted by Spong.
“I've never played the game so I do not know what tracks on which Michael and I have worked the developers have kept, but we did compose music for the game,” Buxer stated.
“Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that's what I did. And if he is not credited for composing the music, it's because he was not happy with the result sound coming out of the console.
“At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music.”
Even more interestingly, Buxor adds that the music that plays over the credits of the game was used as the basis for HIStory hit Stranger in Moscow.
Sonic 3 now becomes the fifth game to boast a helping hand from the King of Pop, with the others being Space Channel 5, Space Channel 5 Part 2, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 and, of course, Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker.

Finally
The fact was, we all knew of the similarities it was just never confirmed by anyone that he had acctually worked on it. It's only now they've given us a definate "Yes"
Wait..
He would rather be associated with the awful moonwalker game than the hugely popular GOOD Megadrive Sonic games?
Sorry, not confirmed
The 'confirmation' in GamesTM and other outlets was that Michael Jackson wrote the music, but was never put into the final Sonic 3 game. This was never in dispute.
Buxer's comments negate SEGA's comments in GamesTM and other places by specifically stating that his work was in the game, referencing the link between the Credits theme and Stranger In Moscow, for example.
A better understanding of what was actually said is best before one starts purporting this as 'non-news'.
