Rebellion talks AvP banning

Says it will not pander to “territories where adults are not able to make their own entertainment choices”

UK developer Rebellion has emphatically stated that it will not be producing an edited version of its upcoming Aliens vs Predator to appease classification boards who ban the game.

The news comes shortly after it was confirmed that the Australian Classification Board has banned the title in the region, citing its extreme violence as the cause.

“Rebellion is disappointed that its upcoming title Aliens vs. Predator has been banned in Australia,” the studio’s CEO Jason Kingsley stated. “However, as we understand the law in that country the authorities had no choice as we agree strongly that our game is not suitable for game players who are not adults.

“The content of AvP is based on some of the most innovative and iconic horror movies, and as such we wanted to create a title that was true to the source material. It is for adults, and it is bloody and frightening, that was our intent.

“We will not be releasing a sanitized or cut down version for territories where adults are not considered by their governments to be able to make their own entertainment choices.”

good on 'em i say. hopefully it'll do better justice to the franchise than the AvP movies, they sucked balls.

i don't have my expectations set too high for it, in fairness the only decent iteration of the AvP franchise was the comics. so long as the game creates crippling tension it'll be fine. previous Alien games have suffered from wave after wave of charging Alien and face-hugger. and i'd love to play as a Predator this gen, there's so much potential in the character

i'm glad he referred to the films as horror rather than sci-fi. kudos. the game should be more survival horror than FPS, that's what was so great about Alien.

not sure what format they've got it on but the three different charcters: aliens, predators and marines, kinda lend themselves to different game styles. Marines should be FPS, Predator should be 3rd person action and aliens should be, err.....dunno, but they could be different.

Well I give kudos to the developers of this game that are sticking up for their game that is coming out. B/c he is right, why give a game to a country that makes decisions for adults too?!?!!? That is absurd though. But I'm glad for Rebellion. You go guys/gals.

Funny thing is, strip clubs and brothels are legal in most parts of Australia (Melbourne at least).

But you can't play a video game!

Funny thing is J I think you'll find that in Melbourne even they frown upon ripping a strippers skull and spinal chord out before steam cleaning it and having it as a trophy.

It's good to see a creator talking about their creation. It's right that the artist and creative merits of games should be discussed and aired in this way. Well done Jason
