Nintendo DSi XL to launch on March 5th

Latest iteration of hugely successful handheld gets European and UK release date

MCV can reveal that Nintendo will launch the DSi XL in Europe and the UK on March 5th.

The fourth iteration follows in the footsteps of the original DS, the DS Lite and last year’s DSi.

It features by far the largest screen ever seen on a Nintendo handheld (as shown above), with its 4.2 inches representing a 93 per cent hike over the screens on the DS Lite.

When it launches the new portable will come pre-loaded with two games – Dr Kawashima’s Little Bit of Brain Training: Arts Edition and Dictionary: 6 in 1. There’s also the in-built web browser and other functions the DSi introduced to the format.

Red and Dark Brown SKUs will be available at launch.

The people who will buy this are probably over 50 and need the larger screen due to poor eyesight.

Nintendo has a very wide demographic for the ds. This product is acknowledging and addressing issues the older generation have with the smaller DS lite/ DSi.

Ninty has said it will still offer the lite side by side with the new XL.

Well done Ninty I say

I think they've got it right this time. The DSi was a bit of a non-event, but the XL with its bigger screens could prove really popular with the 'brain training' generation.

I just hope the price comes down a bit. I wouldn't like to see this go the same way the PSP Go did.

Just had my first Distie Preselling DSI XL £124 Trade which is £145.70 incl of VAT

Most Retaillers Will Be selling at £149.99

Which means that we make £4.29 Incl of VAT & Tax and £2.93 Excl of VAt and Corp Tax

£2.93 Profit on a piece of Hardware that sells for £150. We make the same selling 3 Stylus pens at £4.99 or a DS / DSi Charger at £7.99

Of course that High Street Stores and Supermarkets will sell at £145 ish probably with extra games or Accessory packs free

Thanks Everyone another great Margin Maker for Retail

pointless, no money to be made and most of our customers ask where they can download all the games for free, so no return business

So let me get this straight.
They create the 1st DS, innovative for its two screens.
They then release the DS Lite, which is the same thing but in a smaller format, and a sleeker design, the point here being to make it more PORTABLE.
They then release the DSi, which has a bunch of useless gadgets on it and sells at a higher price.
Only to then relase a PHYSICALLY LARGER VERSION OF THE PHYSICALLY SMALLER VERSION OF A DS? Pardon my French, but what the hell?
