Ubisoft halves Red Steel 2 forecast

The faith publishers put in core games on Wii is once again under strain with news that Ubisoft has drastically downsized its sales expectations for the upcoming Red Steel 2 on Wii.

The move comes in the wake of a lowering of Ubisoft’s overall financial forecasts last week.

On Red Steel we decided, in our expectations, to divide the quantity by two,” CEO Yves Guillemot stated in an investor call, as reported by TVG. Previously we had estimated around 1m sales.”

The news comes after Ubisoft last week stated its intention to focus its core releases on the Xbox 360 and PS3, echoing sentiments expressed by both Capcom and Sega.

However, today’s success of Ubisoft’s Just Dance proves that correctly targeted third party games can still triumph on Nintendo’s machine.

Red Steel 2 is due for release in the UK some time this quarter.
