“Portal was a test bed – Portal 2 is a game” claims developer Game Informer reveals all
Following its reveal last week, developer Valve has for the first spoke about its long-anticipated FPS puzzle sequel Portal 2 – and it doesn’t seem shy of raising expectations as high as it possibly can.
US mag Game Informer reports that the game is set hundreds of years after the original. It will again feature GlaDOS and will take place in an overgrown and neglected version of the last game’s lab complex.
Two player co-op has been confirmed, as has a release on Xbox 360, PC and – for the first time – Mac.
“Portal was a test bed – Portal 2 is a game,” Valve’s Doug Lombardi told the magazine. “Portal was so short because it was a trial. We paired it with Half-Life 2 Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2, which were recognisable and safe. Then we had this Portal thing, and we had no idea if people would dig it, even though we thought it was a cool idea.
“So it was put out there safely in The Orange Box, and the result came back wilder than we could have ever imagined. We knew this time we had to double down and give them more.”
