Dev source confirms PS3 'nunchuck'

Sony wants to convert Wii developers with Motion Controller, says GDC source

Studio sources have confirmed to MCV's sister site Develop that Sony's new Motion Controller device will be compatible with an extra Wii Nunchuck-style add-on.

Speaking at GDC, the source stated that even though the controller's final specs will be 'reminiscent' to the Wii, the familiar elements provide scope for those familiar with Nintendo's platform to 'upgrade' their ideas to the HD rival PS3.

If this turns out to be a wii remote for the ps3 with not much in the way of development, i will not be impressed. At least xbox's offering has something new to add to the market. Will this just be another case of sony following suit as they did with the six axisis controller and the gamer points awards thingy?? I hope not for their sake.

OMG Its just another Wii-mote? It's a motion control stick what do you expect it to be like? A purple dancing flamingo that eats cheese whilst tap dancing on Michael Parkinsons head? Perhaps you would prefer it if Sony released a "Glenda Jacksons Pants Draw" accessory as that would be like, totally new yeah! Grow up, it's not like Wii was the first ever motion control device.

I think you're missing the point if you think this is a 'bad thing'. Although Sony will probably be accused of being very 'me too', the more advanced functions from the camera, plus the HD elements on PS3, could well mean the MotionController beats Wii at its own game. At least that's how I'm seeing it.

Just look up the you tube videos of the 'arc' in action, especially the fantasy bow and arrow and sword and shield segments. The sensitivity and performance thanks to the combination of the arc and playstation eye is in a class of it's own.

Erm, if I'm not much mistaken, Sony came up with the technology first and sold (?) it to Nintendo.

I just read your rant again, and thought of another point:

"sony isnt going to get nintendo working on ps3 so sonys statent is moronic"

Sony aren't trying to get Nintendo "working on ps3", they're trying to get the 3rd party developers to switch (or develop for PS3 in addition to Nintendo). Even a small slice of that pie will be worth it for Sony.

look there are very big motion plus games out there in development that sony would need 5 years to even get a look the new ZELDA WII is fully motion plus 60 fps with graphics to die for and i mean going off the gamecube versio this will be amazing its also the longest ever game in development to see a release after another zelda game that was in dev for 3 and a half years this zelda has a 5 and a half year dev cycle yes its took the crown for longest ever game in development and with this team on board to think what they have achieved with this game is incredible i mean ninty already said this game is achieving things no other game out there has achieved yet that alone is the reason to own motion+ sony with all its power cant compete with this game alone let alone the secret motion+ wii game that myamoto is working on and tigerwoods 2011,nhl 2k11,retro studios game is M+,these are hardcore games using the device of the highest quality and then u have to also factor in that sonys wand has along way to go to reach 14 million install base and that the M+ games sell 3-4 times the amount that non M+ games sell fact cant forget RED STEEL 2,plus if that does well expect a sequel with MP online im getting all these games wow even ACTIVISION BLIZZARD HAVE SOMETHING BIG IM BETTING ITS THE GAME THEY HAD ON GAME.CO.UK listed for a arpil release and the gme ROGUE SQUADRON WII FROM FACTOR 5 and that game my friends will blow u away

Are you saying that Sony shouldn't even try to snatch a piece of that action? I'm quite sure there are a number of people out there who would opt for the PS3 over the Wii due to Bluray/HD and now motion control for family-style games. Besides which, Arc is more than just a motion controller; it utilises the PS Eye for more flexibility. I'm not saying Wii sales will decline, simply that Sony can take advantage of what is obviously a huge market.

Considering that NOBODY outside Nintendo has even seen the new Zelda game, how do you know it'll be the best thing ever?

I'm sure it'll be fantastic game, I personally cannot wait.

As for a game released in April??? What is this game? Just over a month to go and nobody has seen it. No marketing in any shape what-so-ever.
Don't think the Nintendo rep' mentioned anything bar the upcoming release of 'Metroid M' when talking to him in store.

Sounds like you had a bit of a fanboy rant there sunshine. Maybe when you get back from school, you might want stop fiddling around with your remote too much. You'll go blind.

Move

I don't think those who say this is just a Wii remote are seeing the big picture.

It turns your PS3 into a Wii, in essence, yes, but it's a Wii that will have infinitely superior graphics, less reluctant third-party support, far, far better accuracy and control - essentially it is a BETTER Wii.

Even if they make a Wii HD over at Nintendo, Sony have already done it. The Move is a far superior piece of technology, a Wiimote with Motion+ doesn't even come close to the accuracy and control within 3D space.

So you get a 'Wii HD' plus the PS3, with a Blu-Ray player and a huge catalogue of awesome games and a great PSN Store distribution platform that's far better than anything Wii has - so you'll be able to download motion enabled PSN games at low cost as well as get full disc-based releases.

Oh, and of course lets not forget 3D TV support for Blu-ray playback and Games.

Or you know, you could buy a Wii, which doesn't even has a DVD player in it, barely any internal memory and 480p graphics...

I know what I'd buy.
