3DS could hurt DSi XL sales

The announcement of the Nintendo 3DS could have damaged any chance the DSi XL had in the global market, one analyst has claimed.

Speaking to CNBC, M2 Research analyst Billy Pigeon stated: Apparently, the Japanese press was all over it and talked with suppliers there and Nintendo just wanted to get out ahead by breaking the news to prevent a leak.

Does it clash with the DSi XL? Yes it does.”

Pigeon went on to add that the notoriously inward-looking mentality of Nintendo Kyoto-based HQ means that markets such as the US – where the DSi XL was only launched last weekend – were not given due consideration with regard to the surprise 3DS reveal.

The XL is old news, however, in Japan – and Nintendo is a very Japan-centric organization. This is just the corporate parent in Japan maybe not acting in the best interest of Nintendo of America.”
