Tony Hawk names next game

In a move that he obviously knew would send Activision’s PR team into somewhat of a frenzy, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk last night revealed via Twitter the name of the next game to star his likeness – Tony Hawk Shred.

Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling.”

The tweet has since been removed.

Nothing is known of the game as of yet, though expect it to use the controversial skateboard controller that debuted with last year’s Tony Hawk: Ride. The term ‘shred’ is more associated with snowboarding than skateboarding, pointing to a possible repositioning of the franchise.

The extreme sports star had previously hinted that work had begun on a successor to the game. Many had questioned the franchise’s long-term viability following the terrible reception it received from critics.

So bad was the reaction that Hawk himself chose to defend the game, stating:

Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game. I don’t agree with people who say the board’s not responsive. I think that they’re just not giving it a fair shake.”
