Dragon Age bigger than Mass Effect

Dragon Age bigger than Mass Effect

Last year’s RPG is BioWare’s most successful ever release

Rob Bartel, the principal designer at BioWare, has told MCV that last year’s PC and console release Dragon Age was the most successful game the studio has ever produced – trumping high-profile sci-fi release Mass Effect in the process.

The boast also places Dragon Age above the likes of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and Baldur’s gate.
“Dragon Age was an extremely successful title for us – last November it was the single most globally successful title we’ve put out to date,” he confirmed at EA’s recent European showcase.

“This is one of our two primary IPs in the Edmonton studio in Canada, and then we’re working on the Old Republic down in Austen. So Dragon Age is a very big part of what we do and for what the future for BioWare will hold for sure.”

The news comes after the studio lifted the lid on the game’s first proper sequel, Dragon Age 2.

Not sure if I will buy 2. One was fun but Dragon Age got really boring really fast. One play through was all I could take. That means it is a very expensive game to play given the short time it is playable,

I have to admit it's a great game, but I found it really hard to play and the controls felt very clunky. I had hoped that it would be closer and a little more fluid like Mass Effect, but I lost interest in the game quite early on. Probably due to another title release. I'd play a DA2 demo before committing any cash and then I'd only part with £25 max.

Biggest release from Bioware? No surprise there as it's the first title they have released across all 3 games platforms.
Bioware making a PS3 game - of course i'd buy it!
If you want more sales just release Mass effect on ps3!

that's great for bioware that it was huge for them. the xbox and the pc really gave them that much needed profit so they make more kick arse games. they should also only make games for the xbox and the pc coz other than these 2 platforms the rest are sh*t. no need for bioware to waste money & effort making their games for other consoles.

Someone's already said it

Someone has already hit the nail on the head, a multiplatform release is the key factor here, rather than the quality of the game. I enjoyed Dragon Age a lot, and I'll always happily welcome new Bioware games, but as a PS3 owner I've not been afforded the opportunity to play Mass Effect 2 and I'm not willing to invest in Xbox hardware for one game.

diarrhea, I'm genuinely impressed that someone with such severe learning difficulties has managed to get through any Bioware games. Given your limited mental capacity I'd image ineptly clawing the disc from the box and gazing into it's shiny surface would probably be enough to entertain you for a few hours.

Has there been any breakdown of the sales on each platform? Also, seems a shame that the current information concerning Dragon Age 2 implies that it's undergoing a bit of a tranformation towards something more akin to Mass Effect. Shame, but I guess metacritic would see it as a good thing.
Personally, I enjoyed DO:A, but it really wasn't Baldur's Gate II...
