UK CHARTS: PES fails to topple FIFA

Konami’s PES 2011 has entered the UKIE GfK Chart-Track UK Top 40 in second spot in its debut week, failing to shift last week’s No.1 FIFA 11 from the top position.

Last year PES 2010 managed to secure the top spot upon its release on October 23rd, though its arrival was some three weeks after EA’s as opposed to this year where we’ve had just a single week in between releases.

Chart-Track adds that it’s the first time a new PES title hasn’t debuted at No.1 since the series’ debut game kicked off in 2001.

Sales of the new football game also heavily favoured PS3, which claimed a 71 per cent share. The series has traditionally been a core PlayStation brand, and the large modding community that patches in all the kits and club info missing from the official release is very PS3-orientated.

Elsewhere in the charts Konami’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow debuts in sixth place, one ahead of fellow debutant Enslaved: Odyssey to the West from Namco Bandai.

The top ten is rounded off by another new entry – Nintendo’s Wii Party.

Black Bean’s WRC: World Rally Championship does well to claim 11th in its first week. There’s also a new entry for 2K Sports’ NBA 2K11 in 19th.

Here’s the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top Ten in full (for the week ending October 9th):
1. FIFA 11 (EA)
2. PES 2011 (Konami)
3. Dead Rising 2 (Capcom)
4. F1 2010 (Codemasters)
5. Halo: Reach (Microsoft)
6. Castlevania: Lords of the Shadow (Konami)
7. Enslaved (Namco Bandai)
8. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 (EA)
9. Just Dance (Ubisoft)
10. Wii Party (Nintendo)
