2010 could be PSPs best year yet

While the West continues to dwell on the behind-closed-doors development of the PSP2 and shelf space for the current PSP continues to tighten, the CEO of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain has claimed that he thinks the machine is on track to enjoy its best ever year on the Japanese market.

This year will be the PSP’s biggest year,” Hirokazu Hamamura said in a games seminar, as reported by Andriasang.

2010 has seen the release of Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and two new Monster Hunter titles, and has seen Sony’s machine fight it our blow-for-blow with Nintendo’s DS in the hardware charts.

The biggest software success has undoubtedly been Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, which Hamamura believes could go on to sell five million units. That would put it about a million ahead of its successful predecessor.

In addition, spin-off Monster Hunter Diary Poka Poka Felyne Village has sold around half a million units, with Capcom estimating that 50 per cent of the people who bought the game are female.
