Gears of War Kinect in the works

Microsoft will unveil a Gears of War title that is designed for Kinect at the Spike TV Video Games Awards, according to rumours on IGN.

Coming from a reliable source”, the site claims not to know if it is a brand new title or an existing version of the game with retro-fitted motion support.

What we do know, though, is that it’s got nothing to do with Gears of War 3 – Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski confirmed as much on Twitter shortly after the news emerged.

IGN adds that Microsoft will use the December 11th event to announce a number of new action titles, with more than one designed specifically for Kinect.

Though Kinect’s launch line-up is squarely focused at the mass market and casual audiences, core games are on the way – most notably Mizuguchi’s Rez successor Child of Eden as well as Grasshopper’s Codename D, a new Panzer Dragoon and Steel Battalion.

Nonetheless, a Kinect-enabled Gears of War would be a fascinating addition to the line-up and one that could further the camera’s reach into the Xbox 360’s traditional market.

Sony’s Move, of course, already has a few core games titles with motion compatibility such as Ubisoft’s RUSE and first party titles MAG and The Fight. And next year will see the much-hyped release of Killzone 3.
