Update needed to play GT5 online

Consumers who rush out tomorrow to be among the first to get their hands on the long-awaited PS3 racer Gran Turismo 5 tomorrow will need to download a hefty update right away if they wish to take the game online.

Confirmation of the 133MB patch comes from Eurogamer. The download will update the game to version 1.01 and will also add some additional community features.

Those who skip the update in their eagerness to get stuck into the game will receive an error message if they try to access the online multiplayer features.

It was confirmed last week that the game offers users the chance to run an optional 6.4GB installation. This can either be done from the off – a process that takes about 40 mins – or instead can quietly run in background as users play the game.

Big things are expected from Polyphony Digital’s racer, with retailer ShopTo predicting that it will emerge as the best selling title of 2010.
