Kane & Lynch will return

Expect to see more of Square Enix’s violent criminal duo Kane & Lynch.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Eidos life president Ian Livingstone stated: We haven’t made any announcements about Kane & Lynch going forward, but we all know that Kane and Lynch are two amazing characters who have a lot of brand equity.

People like those guys, so they’re not going to disappear.”

The last game in the series, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, was somewhat divisive amongst critics, with some celebrating its gritty visual style and others deriding its thin plot and short single player game. It currently has an average of 63 per cent on Metacritic.

And Livingstone acknowledges the reaction.

Kane & Lynch 2 clearly had a Marmite effect on people,” Livingstone added. You either loved it or hated it. Some people liked the juddering camera, home video style. Others absolutely hated it. Some loved the characters. Some didn’t like the characters.

But it’s artistic, thrill-a-minute instant action stuff. I thought it was a great game, but I can understand people might not have liked it.”

None of this stopped Dog Days debuting at No.1 in the UK charts, though it soon vanished off the listings and was quickly discounted at retail.

Last month around 30 jobs were lost at the game’s developer IO Interactive.
