505 lines up Grease for motion controllers

505 will release Grease for PS3 Move and Xbox 360 Kinect later this year – but it will be a very different game to the one that hit Wii and DS last year.

The firm admits that the market shifted significantly during the development of the first version – and that the end result didn’t quite chime with what consumers wanted. The Sony and Microsoft versions, however, will be literally all-singing and all-dancing, and the publisher is hopeful there’s plenty of life left in the classic franchise as far as the video game sector is concerned.

Global head of brand Tim Woodley told MCV: "With hindsight, what Grease was as a game didn’t hit what the market wanted from that brand at that time. It’s done reasonably well over the Christmas period, but it was put together during a dip in the music game genre, before the Just Dance-led resurgence, if you like.

"People wanted mini games, is what the market was telling us. So we made a party game based around the movie, but the market shifted again in the course of development and when the game arrived it was a bit of a mismatch with what the consumer wanted.

"Now we’ve green-lit the PS3 and 360 versions, and we are making sure that they will be all-singing and all-dancing."

No specific release date has been set yet, but Grease will be out for PS3 and Xbox 360 in the second half of 2011.
