Intel criticises Nokia’s WP7 switch

Intel CEO Paul Otellini has lashed out at Nokia over its decision to side with Microsoft and adopt its Windows Phone 7 software platform in its future smartphone handsets.

Otellini’s firm is likely annoyed that Nokia’s decision also meant the abandonment of plans to use Intel’s MeeGo platform in its handsets.

It addition, the exec claims that both Microsoft and Google made "incredible" financial offers to secure Nokia’s loyalty.

"I wouldn’t have made the decision he made," the exec told investors in a call reported by Reuters.

"I would probably have gone to Android if I were him. MeeGo would have been the best strategy but he concluded he couldn’t afford it. We will find another partner."

Otellini also claims that the adoption of WP7 will make it hard for Nokia to differentiate itself from other providers in the market. "It would have been less hard on Android," he argued. "On MeeGo he could have done it."
