JAPAN: Torchlight release cancelled

It hits Xbox Live Arcade in Europe and the US today, but the Japanese release of Microsoft published RPG Torchlight has been abandoned at the last minute.

Andriasang reports that the platform holder has blamed the discovery of a text bug that’s present in only the Japanese version of the game.

Furthermore, it’s been confirmed that the decision isn’t temporary – the game’s release in the region has been abandoned completely.

Torchlight, which was developed by Runic Games, was initially released on PC in 2009 and was a critical success.

UPDATE: Microsoft has contacted MCV to say that the game was not removed due to a bug.

"We made the decision to not launch Torchlight on Xbox LIVE Arcade in Japan due to localisation complexities; not due to bugs," the statement reads. "We apologise for any inconvenience."
