Facebook clarifies Warner movie service

Facebook has clarified that it has not partnered with Warner Bros to bring movies to its site.

Instead, the initiative is based on an app that Warner is testing via the social network, using Facebook Credits to allow users to purchase or rent its films.

The service was announced this week and starts with The Dark Knight. Users can access the movie by heading to the film’s Facebook page, where they can watch it being streamed through an app.

Right now, more than 400 games and applications use Facebook Credits to give people a convenient and safe way to buy virtual and digital goods on Facebook,” a Facebook spokesperson told MCV.

We’re open to developers and partners that want to experiment using credits in new and interesting ways, and we look forward to seeing what they come up with.”
