Famitsu predicts 3DS dominance

Despite a slow start that has seen PSP continue to dominate the portable hardware sector in Japan, Famitsu publisher Enterbrain has predicted that 3DS will be the best selling console in the territory in 2011.

Andriasang reports that predictions point to a total of 2,868,000 before the end of the year. That’s quite some way ahead of the 2,378,000 predicted PSP unit sales.

Other predictions are as follows – DS (1,545,000), PS3 (1,469,000), Wii (948,000), Xbox 360 (122,000) and PS2 (48,000). It also forecasts 547,000 sales for the NGP.

In its first three months on the market in Japan 3DS sold just under 1m units, though over three quarters of those sales were made in the first month. Current sales will have to accelerate if 3DS is to hit Enterbrain’s forecasts.
