Now Nintendo server is hacked

Nintendo has become the latest games firm to fall victim to an online data hack, the Japanese company has confirmed.

A Nintendo of America affiliate server was breached a few weeks ago, but no consumer or company information was stolen. The news comes after Sony’s PSN service was taken down for almost one month, after around 77m users’ passwords and personal data was accessed.

There were no third-party victims,” Nintendo spokesman Ken Toyoda told The Associated Press. But it is a fact there was some kind of possible hacking attack.”

Hacker group Lulz Security – which also hacked the Sony Pictures website and obtained 1m passwords – took responsibility for the attack on Nintendo.

We’re not targeting Nintendo,” the group said on Twitter. We like the N64 too much.

We just got a config file and made it clear that we didn’t mean any harm. Nintendo had already fixed it anyway.”

In a statement sent to GameSpot, a Nintendo spokesperson added: The protection of our customer information is our utmost priority. Therefore, we constantly monitor our security.

This particular situation was a server configuration issue that we investigated and resolved a few weeks ago. The server contained no consumer information.”
