Hackers target Citibank

Citibank has admitted to suffering a data breach that allowed hackers to view the names, account numbers and contact details of around 200,000 of its customers.

Incredibly, Reuters reports that the breach happened in early May and that the bank has only just admitted to its occurrence, which is thought to have affected one per cent of the banks 21 million customers.

We are contacting customers whose information was impacted. Citi has implemented enhanced procedures to prevent a recurrence of this type of event," said Citibank spokesman, Sean Kevelighan.
