Zelda anniversary collection canned

Zelda fans hoping for to pick up a commemorative collection of the pointy-eared hero’s adventures this year will be disappointed.

NintendoWorld’s translation of the latest Iwata Asks interview reveals that the Nintendo of America team had proposed to mark the Zelda series’ 25th Anniversary with a special compilation disc, but it was turned down by Nintendo of Japan.

Zelda designer Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said that doing a collection two years in a row – following last year’s Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition – wasn’t the sort of strategy Nintendo employs.

Instead the focus will be on soundtrack CDs given to select Ocarina of Time 3D and Skyward Sword buyers, the free release of Four Swords through DSiWare and a series of commemorative concerts – all of which was announced at Nintendo’s E3 press conference last week.

Miyamot and Iwata also revealed that a limited edition gold Wii Remote would be made available for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword later this year.
