Minecraft reaches 10m users

Over 10m players have registered to play Minecraft in just over two years.

The downloadable PC world-building game hit the new milestone well ahead of its full release this November. It was initially released in May 2009 and has since launched on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Minecraft was created by Swedish indie game developer Markus Persson, who went on to establish the development studio Mojang. He revealed the new 10m user figure on his blog.

Last September Minecraft was reportedly netting Persson $350,000 per day.

At E3 it was announced that the game will arrive on Xbox 360 Kinect this winter. It will also head to iOS platforms such as the iPhone and iPad.
