Bethesda will support Wii U… if it’s powerful enough

Elder Scrolls, Rage and Prey 2 could be coming to Wii U and Vita – as long as these new platforms can handle them.

According to Bethesda’s VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines, the original Wii was ‘not an option’ for the firm as it would mean re-developing its big games – which include Fallout 3 and the Elder Scrolls series.

Our motto has always been: We want to make our games available to the widest audience possible on whatever platforms that will support the game,” Hines told MCV.

So to whatever extent new consoles fit with the kind of games we are making and support them technologically, we would certainly do that. The Wii wasn’t even an option – we would have to make wholesale changes to the games we were making on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to make them work on Wii.

I honestly know nothing about the tech specs of the new platforms and whether or not they are a good fit for what we are making with say Rage and Skyrim and Prey 2.

"If they are a good fit for the kind of games we are making then, absolutely, we would look to put them out for those. But beyond that I can’t get into specifics.”

Hines also said that Bethesda’s studios would only look to make games for unique controllers – such as PlayStation Move and Kinect – if they can offer something to its games a traditional pad cannot.

He continued: We support technology like that when we feel the addition of it makes sense. I think we would look to support things, whether it be a special type of control or whatever, when it does something we can’t already do with a normal controller.”
