The new 12 GB flash memory model of the super slim PS3 will be available in India as a PlayStation Move bundle at a price of Rs 18,990.
The bundle includes the PS3 console, the Move Starter Kit (PlayStation Eye camera, one Move controller) as well as a copy of Move Street Cricket.
It’s a surprisingly high price for the entry level PS3, which was widely expected to be priced below the Rs 15,000 mark, especially after Sony had earlier billed the 12 GB model as being “affordable”.
The 12 GB console is priced even higher than the outgoing 160 GB console, and while it comes with the Move kit and a game, it also ships without the hard drive.
It should be noted that several PS3 games require mandatory installs, which will quickly take up that 12 GB space. For example, Assassin’s Creed 3 alone requires a 4.5 GB install.
Users can, of course, fit this 12 GB model with a compatible third-party hard drive, although this will require a hard drive caddy, which will have to be purchased separately.
Sony recently released the 500 GB version of the super slim PS3, which is bundled with the Uncharted 3 Game of the Year Edition and Gran Turismo 5 Academy Edition, and is priced at Rs 19,990. Of the two, this one certainly seems the better deal.
