Activision has announced that over 1m consumers paid up for the premium version of the Call of Duty: Elite service within its first six days of availability.
By contrast it highlights the premium online offers from the likes of Xbox Live, Netflix and Hulu took over a year to reach the same milestone.
In total over 4m gamers have signed up to the service since its launch.
Between them they have created over 80k clans and 100k user-created videos, as well as 3m daily logins.
"The audience response toCall of Duty Elite’spremium service has been beyond our expectations, and we want to thankCall of Dutyplayers around the world for their unprecedented enthusiasm," Activision Blizzard CEOBobby Kotick stated.
"The number of gamers who have registered forCall of Duty Elitefurther illustrates how this service is poised to redefine social gaming and set a new bar for interactive entertainment."
Activision has admitted that many users have had trouble accessing Elite since launch, primarily due to unanticipated demand. It has now pledged to have everything working 100 per cent by December 1st.
"The demand forCall of Duty Eliteat launch was so overwhelming, that for the first several days, the service did not perform up to our or our fans standards,” Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg stated.
I want to personally thank our fans for their patience. Our teams have been working around the clock to get the service scaled up to meet demand.
I’m very pleased to announce today that the service is now performing stably and anyone who wants to tryCall of DutyEliteis now able to do so. Due to the scaling challenges we encountered at launch, we are giving allCall of Duty Elitepremium Founder members an additional 30 days of the service free of charge."
