20% of US public has played a social network game

According to the findings of The NPD Group’s new research report, titled Social Network Gaming, some 20 per cent of the US populace has spent time playing a social game.

That translates into a quite incredible 56.8 million players across the country.

Other findings in the report suggest that 35 per cent of social network gamers have never participated in any other type of gaming before their experience on sites like Facebook. Females and older age groups are more inclined to be new gamers in this way, according to NPD’s findings..

In spite of the conception that a vast majority of social network gamers fall into the ‘girl gamer’ demographic, the study also confirmed that the gender division is more balanced. 47 per cent of social network gamers are male, and 53 per cent are female.
