3DS breaks US Nintendo records

Nintendo has stated that its new 3DS handheld has broken all previous US hardware sales numbers for the company.

However, it has stopped short of actual revealing any data, saying it won’t do so until April 14th when it will have had chance to check its data with NPD.

"US day-one sales numbers for Nintendo 3DS were the highest of any Nintendo handheld system in our history," a company statement read.

"More details about US sales numbers will be made public on April 14th, when first-week US sales figures will be tallied by the independent NPD Group. Nintendo worked hard to get as much product as possible to retailers on day one to meet demand, and we will continue with these efforts moving forward."

Both HMV and Asda yesterday said that the 3DS was the fastest selling console in their history. And with record-breaking pre-orders in place prior to launch, all signs point to a huge success on the High Street.

The truth of the situation is that until we receive some hard figures from Nintendo rumour and chatter will continue.

It’s inevitable that some voices both inside and outside of the industry will presume that the machine has not met expectations. And while there’s absolutely no evidence to support this, there’s only one way for Nintendo to stop it.
