3DS to use NetFront internet browser

Access’ NetFront will be the internet browser for 3DS.

Reports emerged that Nintendo will be dropping the Opera browser – which has been used on Wii and DSi – when Access boss Tomihisa Kamada confirmed his company’s software will be used by the new device, according to Siliconera.

Kamada added that the Japanese software firm was honoured to be working with Nintendo on the upcoming handheld. The firm has already provided its browser technology to Sony for both the PS3 and PSP.

No official details on the browser’s functions have been given, but reports suggest you will be able to access it during the middle of a gameplay session.

During its GDC 2011 keynote yesterday, Nintendo confirmed its chosen internet browser would be introduced to the 3DS via a worldwide system update in late May.
