40% Brazilian price cut for 360 as new factory opens

Microsoft will produce 17,000 Xbox 360 systems every week from a new manufacturing plant in Brazil that opens next month.

The creation of this facility is part of the Xbox firm’s ongoing partnership with Flextronic Inc, adding to the manufacturing operations already running in China, according to Gamasutra.

As a result, the Xbox 360 will see a 40 per cent price cut in Brazil. As of October 5th, the 4GB Xbox 360 will cost R$799 (equivalent to $435 in the US), while the 250GB model with Kinect will cost R$1,399 ($761).

Forza 3 and Alan Wake console bundles and a similar price cut will be used to clear older, imported systems off the shelves. Microsoft is also reducing the price of both Xbox Live Gold memberships and Microsoft points cards.

Finally, the platform holder confirmed that localised versions of The Gunstringer, Kinect Sports: Season 2, Halo Anniversary and Forza 4 will be released in Brazil by Christmas.
