Owners of 4K TVs now have another (and perhaps first?) way to access Ultra HD content on their screens thanks to the official UK launch of 4K Blu-ray.
12 movies are available in the launch line-up – Mad Max, The LEGO Movie, Kingsman, The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Hitman: Agent 47, Pan, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Life of Pi, San Andreas, Exodus and Fantastic Four.
Ultra HD Blu-ray is region free, however, so plenty more titles are also available on import.
RRPs for the discs aren’t cheap, ranging between 29.99-34.99, although most can be found online for 25 or below.
The range of 4K Blu-ray players on the market remains slim, however, with Panasonic’s 600 DMP-UB900 the only widely available model right now, although the Samsung’s UBD-K8500 is due out imminently. 4K video streaming is available in a limited fashion on some services, although for cinephiles the improvements offered by physical media will definitely appeal.
Rumours persist that a 4K-friendly PS4 will be released this year.
