The fault, which freezes console units, was apparently less-likely to occur on Elite machines.
In a statement issued to the newspaper, Microsoft said: "The majority of Xbox 360 owners enjoy a great experience with their console. Anyone with a problem should call Xbox customer service."
Update: MCV has since learnt that The Mirror story relates to last year's fund set up to deal with the problem, and is not specific to Elite consoles.
