Nintendo has officially unveiled the Wii Mini.
The cut-sized console will retail for $99 in Canada. It has a manually operated top-loading disc drive and sports no internet connectivity whatsoever. It is also not compatible with GameCube titles.
The system is designed to lay flat. In the box gamers will get a console, sensor bar, red Wii MotionPlus controller and red nunchuk.
Perhaps most strangely, Nintendo’s press release suggests that the new machine will be exclusive to Canada throughout the festive season.
The Wii Mini will launch in Canada on December 7th.
Although there’s no official confirmation as of yet, expect the hardware to roll out to emerging markets – and quite possibly the UK and Europe – in the New Year.
There are games in the Wii library for every type of player,” Nintendo of Canada VP and GM Ron Bertram stated. Wii Mini is a great gift for the holidays that brings everyone in the family together to play. Wii Mini has a mini price, but it’s all about big fun.”
Nintendo adds that no information is available about its potential availability in other territories in the future”.
