Activision expects the console installed-base in US and Europe to grow 18 per cent in 2010 to 265 million units.

The firm revealed that hardware sales leapt 37 per cent last year to 218 million consoles sold.

The announcement was made by Activision’s publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith during the firm’s post-fiscal conference call.

The company expects PS3 sales to reach nine million this year, 360 to sell eight million units, Wii to sell 12 million, while DS and PSP sales are expected to grow in excess of 18 million units in 2010.

"Console sales remain strong in 2009 and as of December 31st, the installed base of hardware in US and Europe for current generation systems and handhelds was 218 million units, an increase of 37% year-over-year," said Griffith.

"Looking to 2010, we expect the installed base of current generation systems to grow to 265 million, making this cycle the largest ever."
