Activision counters No Doubt lawsuit

Activision Blizzard has filed a countersuit against No Doubt’s breach of contract allegations.

The rock band issued a complaint against Activision allowing gamers to play other groups’ music using No Doubt avatars – an act the artists claimed that this downgrades them to being a virtual karaoke act”, according to Game Politics.

Activision made a counterclaim on December 3rd in the US District Court, denying allegations of wrong doing and attaching a copy of the agreement between the publisher and No Doubt.

A spokesperson said: Activision admits that although it is possible to program a video game whereby particular in-game characters can only be selected when certain songs are play, Plaintiff first requested this only after the Band Hero programming was finalised, has been submitted to all of the US console manufacturers for approval and had been approved for manufacture by most console manufacturers…”

The company is seeking judgement in its favour, a return of all benefits and payments from No Doubt, and unspecified damages and interest. It has also requested an order for the band to pay the full cost of this action” and reasonable” attorney fees.

Activision Blizzard faced similar complaints from Courtney Love back in September over the use of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain’s in-game appearance.
