Activision resurrects Sierra as indie publishing label; Geometry War 3 confirmed

Despite some confusion on the matter, Activision has confirmed that publishing label Sierra is returning.

The brand will be used as an indie publishing label, with the first confirmed titles being new Geometry Wars and King’s Quest games.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions is being developed by Lucid Games and will introduce 3D visuals to the series, as well as co-op and competitive multiplayer as well as a full single-player campaign. Also planned is dynamic and persistent progression”.

King’s Quest is being developed by The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom studio The Odd Gentlemen.

"Sierra’s goal is to find and work with talented indie developers working on their own amazing projects, or passionate about working on great Sierra IP, and leverage our expertise to aid them in bring these fun and exciting experiences to gamers with the level of visibility and awareness they deserve," senior director of external development Bob Loya said.

"In addition to Lucid Games and The Odd Gentlemen, we’re in talks with a large number of other indie devs, and can’t wait to share more details with fans in the near future."

A host of recognisable IP has appeared under the Sierra label over the years, including Leisure Suit Larry, Homeworld, Carcassonne and TimeShift.
