Activision to Transform Spielberg flick?

The live-action film, based on the cult Hasbro toy franchise, is being directed by Michael Bay, of Bad Boys II and Armageddon fame, with Steven Spielberg on board as executive producer.

“Activision picked up the rights to Transformers last year and has already set a top US studio to work on the project,” a source close to its development revealed to MCV.

The movie is a co-production between DreamWorks, Hasbro and Paramount. Activision has an exisiting relationship with Dreamworks Animation, which has resulted in collaborations on Shrek 2, Shark Tale and Madagascar, with over 10m units sold worldwide. Future titles include Bee Movie, Kung Fu Panda and Shrek 3.
 
Transformers, already the subject of fevered anticipation on Internet forums and fansites, is scheduled to open at US theatres on July 4th, 2007. A spokesperson for the US publisher stated: “Activision does not comment on matters of rumour and speculation”.
