Activision: Treyarch is taking CoD to the next level

Activision Publishing’s chief operating officer Thomas Tippl has promised that developer Treyarch will push the next Call of Duty’s quality beyond that seen in previous iterations of the series.

The statement comes in the build up to this evening’s official unveiling of details of the game’s content and setting.

Tomorrow you will see a teaser for this year’s Call of Duty game,” said Tippl in an interview sighted by VentureBeat. Treyarch is working on it and taking the Call of Duty franchise to the next level.”

In the wake of the high profile split between Activison Blizzard and Call of Duty’s original creators Infinity Ward, the publisher is likely to be keen to show that it can maintain momentum for the series, which has to date generated revenues of $3 billion since its inception three years ago.

VentureBeat has also made confident claims that the game will take place in Vietnam, instead of the previous contemporary and WWII settings Call of Duty has repeatedly visited. However, until Activision Publishing confirms the details in tonight’s announcement, details remain a mystery.

A studio new to the Call of Duty series named Slegehammer Games is to develop the next title in the series following the release of Treyarch’s effort.

No release date for Treyarch’s game has been confirmed.
